Rufus C. Thomas, Jr. was an American rhythm-and-blues, funk, soul and blues singer, songwriter, dancer, DJ and comic entertainer from Memphis, Tennessee. He recorded for several labels, including Chess Records and Sun Records.
Cool Jerk is a song written by Donald Storball and originally performed by The Capitols. The backing track for this song was actually recorded (secretly) by the Motown house band The Funk Brothers, and arranged by Funk Brother Mike Terry.
Sweet Soul Music" is a soul song, first released by Arthur Conley. Written by Conley and Otis Redding, it is based on the Sam Cooke song Yeah Man from his posthumous album Shake;[citation needed] the opening riff is a quote from Elmer Bernsteins score for movie The Magnificent Seven.
